Shanghai Sunset Series
The Amazing Adventures of Breeze Lee
by: Sharon (Wilson) Barnes
Shanghai Sunset was the first book in the series; it started out as a short story, however Breeze and her friends would not get out of my head. I wrote three manuscripts in the first year. Breeze has taken me on many adventures, has kept me up at night, made me cry and gave me many great laughs. The Amazing Adventures of Breeze Lee is about loyality, friendship, overcoming hard times, and totally kicking butt when it is needed. Breeze believes in wearing shoes that you can always kick butt in and/or running if need be. This is a YA supernatural suspense series that is a combination of True Blood, Romeo Must Die, and Push. There is action and adventure throughout the whole series and domestic violence is touched on. I have had people tell me that I didn't need to include that in a YA book and my question was why. It is a real topic that touches many teenage girls and boys, sometimes as a writer we have to take chances; we have to listen to our gut and the characters that are talking in our heads and that is exactly what I did with Shanghai Sunset. Breeze is full of sass and attitude, being a mixed martial artist has a lot to do with that, however her best friend, Jazz Dubre' plays a bigger role in the sass and attitude. It does not do for Breeze or Jazz to get bored, because that is when the trouble starts.
