There is a legend about the spider and her web being the thread of life. I think about that legend when I am writing. There are times when the thoughts seem to flow endlessly and other times it is like the creative thread has been cut. My poetry is taking on more of a cultural aspect and my full length manuscripts is taking on more a dark aspect to life or a romantic side.
The creative thread is great most days, but there are days that I feel like the little spider is in a little race car doing crazy eights with her little web within my mind. Thoughts for different poems get jumbled with thoughts and ideas of a new full length story... that is when I know that it is time to step away from my work and just jot down outlines. I can come back to the outline later and try to pull a thread or two to make a good solid poem or story. Writer's Block is not an issue it is information overload on most days. I just wish I could grasp all the little threads The loss of innocent life is taxing and unnerving. My heart goes out to the families who have lost love ones in the Oklahoma tornado. It seems that 2013 has been full of many twists and turns. I just hope the remainder of the year is less eventful.
To all the wonderful women out there that are mothers.... Happy Mother's Day. I hope it is truly an amazing day for all of you.
I am so thankful that I have friends that will tell me the truth about my writing and not just what I want to hear. It is nice to hear their encouragement, but honesty means so much more.
I read an article recently about writing and the author, M. J. Rose, was being interviewed. She had an amazing view point. Her philosophy was simple; Read, Write, Live, and Listen. Everything in the article was absolutely perfect. As a writer I sometimes get lost in myself and forget to just sit back and listen to what is going on around me. Be observant and living is a major part of writing. Life is where a writer can come up with new characters or interesting story ideas. Thanks M. J. Rose for reminding me to live in order to enjoy writing more.
