Yesterday was the monthly coffee chat book club. I love being able to interact with all of the avid book lovers. I always seem to hear about a book that I want to read. There are so many good books out there, sometimes it is just hard to decide which one to choose.

2014 is absolutely flying by and I feel like I am 10 steps behind all the time. I made a promise to myself to write and read more this year. The year started off great I read 3 books back to back and was getting writing in as well. Then school started back and sports have begun, I am keeping the promise to myself, though I feel like I still need to read more and write more. I took a step back the other day and realized I set the goal for myself so I could do more things that I love, not to stress myself out more. I have met some really amazing authors this year through goodreads and have networked more than I ever did last year. When I say networked, I mean actual human contact and not just social media. It has been such an honor to meet two very amazing poets and get to email and talk with these ladies about what we all love, writing and sharing our work.
I am staying true to my promise by reading and writing more, but I got something even more out that promise, self worth and value. I underestimate myself and undervalue myself alot. This year I am proud of who I am. I would like to apologize for not posting to the blog lately. I had a goal of writing at least once a week, however that hasn't happened. I won't make excuses, I promise to try to post more often.
I have been writing a lot of poetry lately, though it is very different than most of my poetry. It has a Picasso type feel even though it is words instead of visual art. I am not complaining, I absolutely love how my writing twists and turns. It sculpts me as a writer and a person. This past Monday I attended a new local book club called Coffee Chat and it was wonderful. It was so nice to be in a room with people who love books as much as I do. This book club is not a book club where everyone reads the same book then discusses it. It is a club where everyone brings what they are currently reading and tells about that book. When I returned home I couldn't wait to add several of the books to my Amazon wish list, but I also sat down and wrote several poems. I love the appreciation of books.
Holy Cow it is beyond cold in TN. The high tomorrow for this area is in the single digits, now that may not be cold to some of you, but to us Tennesseans and Alabamans that is frigid well actually beyond frigid! Not only is the temp drop also nice to kick back with my children during the holiday break. I especially enjoyed sitting around drinking hot chocolate and catching up on life. They were praying for now school tomorrow due to the weather and their wish has been granted. You would think that after a 2 week break they would be ready to go back to school. I hope everyone is having a great 2014 so far.
I hope everyone is having a very happy holiday season. I love this time of year, simply because I get to have time off to be with my family, catch up on some of my reading and writing, and try to tackle some of the chores that I have let slip over the last couple of months due to softball games. I have actually had a chance to read several great books in the last week or so. It has been wonderful.
As a family we traveled down to Alabama to see family for the Christmas holiday, then we came back home and I cooked for my parents on Christmas Day. We have also spent time with some of our friends. I could not ask for anything more then spending time with the people that I love and care for. It truly has been a wonderful holiday season for me. I hope everyone has a very Happy New Year. Wow... This weekend was crazy with the ice. The plus side of this weekend was quality time with my children and I got to read. I actually wrote a couple of poems as well. YEAH!
I am dreaming of warm sunny beaches so that I don't think about 20 and 30 degrees, but I will take any days that I can kick back with my kids and read a good book or two. I hope everyone is staying warm and making the best that they can of this frightful weather. Recently I was reading an author's webpage and he mentioned an online chapbook called, Right Hand Pointing. As I was reading the author mentioned that this online chapbook only published short, and I mean really short poetry, 75 words or less. I thought surely not, there is no way. So I logged on and sure enough 75 words or less. The number of lines can not be over 25 lines. WOW... Holy Cow....I love a challenge, but that just seemed impossible.
Over the last couple of months I have been really trying to expand my writing, now here was a challenge in the complete opposite direction. I have tried for the last two weeks or so to write a poem in the set number of words and lines.... I failed horribly, but I refused to give up and tonight without even trying I wrote 3 poems well under the word count and the number of lines was no were near 25 lines. I am so excited. To make it even a happier ending, I actually like what is on the page. Over the years I have learned many lessons in life. The two biggest things that I have learned is that life is too short to have regrets and the second lesson that I have learned is to love completely without limits. Recently I got really sick and I realized how little I have laughed lately and how much time I was focused on the non-important things in life and decided no more. I am doing the things that I love now and enjoying every second of it.
My wish list for books is ongoing, however my time to read is so limited. I would love to have just one day to do nothing but read. Maybe one day.
