I was talking to a friend recently who is a fellow writer. It was interesting to see how in line our thought process and writing strategies are. I was trying to explain why I hand write everything and then type it. My friend immediately understood my reasoning and then explained his reasoning for the same process. It was a nice realization that I am not the only person in the world that still prefers pen and paper over a tablet or laptop. I have talked to several writers in the last six months and most of us outline to a degree, some of us use an outline from beginning to end where others used the technique when they were struggling with a scene or a chapter. We are unique individuals and our writing has it's own voice, so whatever works for you regardless if it is pen and paper or the latest tablets...write on and write proudly.

I have been a writer since I could hold a pencil, even though the words or scribbles made no sense to anyone except me. I read an article recently titled "When Can You Call Yourself a Writer." I thought about that article and realized that it is not how many books you publish, articles that you write, or poems that you create that make you a writer. Being a writer is part of you. You write because you are not complete if you do not write regardless if it is for five minutes or five hours. That is true for me. Writing is an absolute must for me, it is like the air that I breathe and the coffee that I drink, it is an absolute must. I can honestly say that I am a writer and so very proud of it.
Yesterday I learned that one or more of my poems will be published. I will not know the exact number of poems that are published until the reception for all of the contributing authors. I am so excited by this news. I have been writing more cultural poems so it is an honor that they are being recognized.
Today is the Irish celebration in Erin. It looks like it is going to be a sunny beautiful day. Yeah!
In Tennessee weather is so unpredictable. One day it is 60 and the next day it is snowing. I am so ready for warm weather and to be rid of sickness.
I was reading an article in a writer's magazine and an agent was talking about this amazing pitch by an author, Gennifer Albin. She is the author of Crewel. Of course, I immediately Googled this author and went to her website. Wow! The agent was correct her pitch was amazing. I have Crewel now on my wishlist. I will be buying it very soon. I am always looking for an amazing read and I think I have found it.
In my house sports are a huge part of our life. We run between basketball and softball games, but we also love football and hockey. I am so thankful that the weather is warming up so we can be outside and throwing the softball. I can't wait until it is 70 or 80 degrees outside.
Lately, it feels like everywhere I turn I am being inspired to write a new story or an idea comes out of no where. That is a wonderful feeling. I have also experienced the other side of the coin when it felt like I would never be inspired to write again. Writer's Block can be an awful and overwhelming feeling. My only advice on writer block is to step a way from what you are writing for a little bit; get out go for a walk, read a book by an author that you have never read before, and just enjoy life. Once you have taken a small break, come back and see if things flow a little better Doing things that we love can spark a renewed energy in our writing. Also, trying new things can spark a new or different energy to your writing.
I keep a notebook for ideas and new characters. Some are really great ideas and some not so much, but I keep them all the same. I have turned to my notebook several times to help me with problem areas of a story and sometimes those ideas that didn't seem good at first are great for that small problem. A couple years ago I was given a leather journal for Christmas. I will say that was one of the best gifts I was ever given, that journal now holds many of my notes and children's stories. If I have my journal, a notebook, pen, and a cup of coffee then I am very happy person. I hope inspiration finds you when you least expect it. As a child the holidays just couldn't arrive fast enough and as an adult it seems that the holidays arrive way too quickly. I can't believe that it is already Feb. The one thing that I am learning to balance to a degree is how much time I have for reading versus how much time I have for writing. I make it a point to write something everyday, regardless if it is a sentence or a chapter, I have to write. I also find that if I only write and don't read books that I am at a loss. I love to find books by new authors that have a fresh unique voice, that seems to inspire me to write more. Well... look at the time... I must run. Have a wonderful day.
I wish Spring and Summer would get here. I am ready for softball season, the warm sun and being outdoors. The TN weather is really all over the place these days. One day is 70 something and the next 40 something. I can't wait for 80 degrees and above.
