I once read on a Cafe Press mug "Writer's block is when the voice's in my head stop talking to me." I was laughing so hard that my husband thought I had lost my mind. As an author, I totally got it. Now I understand more than ever. The voices haven't stopped talking but the opposite there are too many talking at once and I can't make sense out of anything. Nothing is flowing and it is very frustrating. "Plant butt in chair and write/type" is not working, neither is outlining or free write. This is craziness. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Houston County Library is hosting a Youth Writer's Contest. The contest is open to any student in Houston county that is in 2nd-12th grades that attend private, public, or home school. The contest is open to poetry, prose, and short flash fiction. The deadline for the entry is September 27, 2013. The judging will occur on October 5, 2013. There will be a reception for the winners on Monday October 28, 2013 from 5:30-7:30p.m. at the Houston County Public Library. Please spread the word. I hope this contest encourages students to be creative and expressive in their writing. Who knows...maybe one of these students will be the next Janet Evonvich, Stephanie Meyer, Rick Riordan, or R. L. Stine.
I feel so blessed. I recently found out that my poem, The Buffalo, won first place in a regional writing contest. I wrote this poem after I sat down and drew an abstract painting of a grass dancer at a pow wow. When my daughter saw the painting she commented on the dancer's beautiful regalia. I feel so honored and blessed with this poem.
